hello erin »

one year.

Dear Alexandria:

Has it already been a year?  Was it really a whole 12 months ago that we were in the hospital, trying to figure out what to do with a newborn baby girl?  Time really does move that fast.  It’s a good thing we’ve been writing you monthly letters…it’s get’s pretty hard to remember all the fun stuff we’ve been up to the last year.

Well, the last month of your first year was pretty jam packed with exciting new developments (and a few not-so-exciting moments).  The beginning of the month came with few new pearly-whites, and the requisite week mad, grumpy baby.  It’s like a switch gets flipped, and our happy baby moves to the dark side.  It’s quite a task keeping you distracted from those aching gums.  Thankfully the rest of the month was teething free, and we’re back to to the happy baby we know and love…at least until those next few teeth come through!

Oh boy did we have an epic beach day this month!  February and March typically are not great beach months around here, but a heat wave came through, and we couldn’t pass up an opportunity to go down to the water (and try out our brand new wagon too!).  We loaded up some sandwiches and sand toys in the wagon, and walked on down to the sand.  You had a BLAST!  Now, you’ve been to the beach before, but not in the last three months or so.  The sand and surf presented a whole new world for you to explore.  We dipped our toes in the chilly water and watched as the waves came rushing up.  At lunch time you sat in your wagon, enjoying a turkey and avocado sandwich.  Then it was right back to sand to explore.  We can’t wait for the weather to warm up so we can spend more time at the beach this summer!

I think we can safely say you’re walking!  We still have a long way to go until you’re fully mobile, but this month brought your first unassisted steps.  You still like to have a supporting hand close by, but each week brings more and more walking developments.  It seems like all you want to do is toddle around on those two little feet of yours.  We all agree that this walking business plants you firmly into toddlerhood.  We’re going to miss our little baby!

What better way to cap off your first year in this world than with a huge birthday bash at your house?  Perhaps huge is an understatement…this was a first birthday extravaganza!  All your best friends were there, as was all your family.  The babies all played together on a huge mat in the courtyard, which was a sight to be seen. There was a brick-oven pizza truck cranking out delicious made-to-order pizza for lunch.  And let’s not forget your cake.  You LOVED it!  It was a huge cupcake just for you, and you wasted no time digging right in, smashing frosting and cake alike all over your smiling, laughing face.  After a quick clean-up, you proceeded to finish off the party in just your ruffled blue bloomers.  Let’s just say a great time was had by all!

Lexi, all we can say is that this past year was just plain fun.  Challenging?  Totally.  Stressful? At times.  But your easy-going, happy personality has made everything so fun, easy, and simply unforgettable. Happy first birthday Alexandria. we love you!

love:

mom & dad
