traveling with a babe. in-flight survival.

Here’s all the fun we plan on having during our flight to Dallas. Lex is going to be on our laps the whole-time so we’ll be armed with an array of “stuff” to keep her little hands busy. We have never, ever, EVER had luck getting  her to nap on a plane. So we try to fly first thing in the morning while she’s fresh from the night before. Whenever we arrive to where we’re going- she’s usually exhausted and ready for a mega-nap while we unpack and get situated.

Stickers.  We’re definitely in a sticker-stage. Lex loves sticking them to paper, herself, the kitty, and anything else she get find. So stickers and crayons are a total necessity and will hopefully keep her busy for a good 15 minutes.

Books. Books are always our go-to entertainment for restaurants and plane rides. Our favorites right now are of course about princesses & mermaids. The mermaids book is perfect because its interactive.  I also got lex this count and play book for the plane ride. Its fabric and has a ton of fun stuff that comes out of pockets, nets, off the page, and the best part is that its all sewn in so no little pieces can get lost.

Friends. Lex never goes anywhere without her poodle, and these days her penguin. So these two will definitely be making the trip across country.

Headphones. Headphones and an ipad are a big giant MUST HAVE for us. We can keep lex entertained for a few minutes at a time with her shows (we love mickey mouse clubhouse, doc mcstuffins, and bubbleguppies). Not to mention she can play all her fav apps when we get desperate.

Wallet. I have this wallet loaded with old cards, pictures, and other random trinkets for lex to explore and discover. She is always going through our wallets, so she’ll love having her own to explore!

Playdough. This is one we havent used yet! i’ll be taking playdough in a ziplock baggie (that stuff will for sure end up in her mouth)- so she can squish and play with in contained in the bag. I’m hoping for a major WIN with this. . . but we’ll see!

Food & Drink. We will definitely be taking lex’s favorite milk-sippy for take off and landing. Paired with these amazing thermos containers & sippy. I LOVE these things- they keep stuff cold for HOURS, the sippy has a flip lid (with a button. which automatically makes it cool in lex’s eyes), and the container is the perfect size for a small snack- these puppies are used daily already around here, so they’re totally on the must-have list. We’re also huuuuuge fan’s of lollipops. They’re a fairly new thing- so they’re still really fun for lex to eat. Slightly less messy than popsicles, but just as fun.

Anyone else have any “must-have” in flight items?

  • I think you have it all covered! The real question is, how do you transport it all?!

  • two things I grabbed for our flight last month that are still played with now were in a $5 bin at and end cap at target… one was a cinderalla wand that lights up but doesn’t make noise (key) and the other a set of minnie mouse car keys. They have 3 little plastic keys and two buttons that make noise (car start and locking beep). Ashlynn still loves carrying those keys around. Also, they have some great $1 book that are super thin, so it was easy to pack and cheap to buy something “new” to explore.

  • Great list but you forgot one thing…alcohol for the parents if all else fails! 😉 We’ve traveled quite a bit with Sofia since she was born and I always said if she was fussy I would buy those around us drinks – win win!

  • I think you’ve really got this flying thing down!! I’m going to use some of your ideas for our long road trip that’s coming up…especially the lollipops! Where did you buy the ones in the pic? And the wallet idea is genius!

  • We’re traveling across country next month. It’s the first time both of my kids will go on a plane, I’m a little nervous – I hope it goes smooth. Good thinking with the vitamin c pops! I need to get those 🙂

  • I’m taking notes! I need a special shopping day to pick up all these things!

We survived an hour of turbulence at the end of a 5 hour flight with an animal sounds app that my husband downloaded onto his iphone. I don’t know how many times we heard each of those little animal sounds but by golly it worked. There are lots of flashcard-type apps that you can get for free. Now it’s our go-to for long car trips when she just can’t take it anymore.

Great blog – I just found it!!!

  • I Love your blog! What do you use to create your collage?
