DIY glitter play-dough

Hey party people! Today i’m joining Erinn from Strawberry Swing and Other Things for a kid testesd & mom approved craft!

We love getting crafty over here. These days it usually involves stickers and stamps (i apologize in advance for anyone who gets a present or card compliments of lex)- but we decided to head outside the box and make glitter play-dough. It was a cinch, didn’t take too long, and kept lex busy for over 15 minutes (major score).

The ingredient list is way simple. You need:

* 1 cup warm water

* 1 cup flour

* 2tbs salt

* 2 tbs cream of tartar

* 2 tbs cooking oil

* 1 3oz package of JELLO (we used blue. because lex looooooooves anything blue).

* glitter (optional. but who doesnt like a little sparkle?)

The directions are incredibly simple. Just dump all the ingredients into a pan and mix.  Boil on the stove-top stirring constantly until you just. cant. stir. anymore. I pre-measured all the ingredients and enlisted in lex’s help to dump & stir.

Once you’ve stired until you just cant stir anymore- place the playdough on a non-stick surface (think parchment paper or sili-pat) to cool. let it cool about 20-30 minutes. Then knead flour into it until it’s not sticky anymore. After that mix in the glitter and play away!

*ignore the play-rooms turmoil. and the cow tattoo on lex’s foot.

    Jenny - LOVE this homemade play dough! I’ve been thinking it might be time to try my 15mo old daughter with some play dough and this is a great way to do it! Thanks for the post!

    EHayes - 1. I love your little pull out cutting board in the kitchen, I wish I had a place to stick A to help. I usually slide her chair over, but it doesn’t really allow her to get in the action.

    2. WE. ARE. SO. MAKING. THIS. I already added the jello and cream of tartar to my shopping list since we have everything else. Can’t wait. Love all the pics of Lex too!

    Emily - YES!! We are totally going to do this! I think it’s even more fun that you involved Lex in actually making the play doh. Owen loves to “help” me in the kitchen so this will be perfect. And I’m totally using glitter, even if he’s a boy! I need a little glitter in my life! ha

    Jenn - I love this play dough recipe. We are very much still in the everything in your mouth phase, so it’s great that I don’t have to worry too much if they try to eat it. Thanks for sharing!
