hello erin »

how we play.

I’m linking up with julie today to talk about something near and dear to every babe’s heat. . . TOYS.

Being a stay at home mom means there are a whole lotta hours in a day i’m responsible for entertaining. Yes, we get out of the house for walks, activities, beach & park visits- but sometimes staying in and playing is just as appealing. I’m so grateful lex is getting to a more independent playing stage (it definitely means i can get a little more accomplished around the house).  Here’s how we fill all our hours in a day:

BOOKS. No joke we LOVE books. We take some down from the shelves and lex will sit forever (aka 20 minutes) just flipping through pages and “reading”. It definitely means the play room is in a constant state of book turmoil- but hey- its BOOKS! Our favorites are the little people flip books, three little mermaids, pantone books, jellycat books, and anything about the zoo and canada (seriously, we have a lot of canada books).

PRINCESSES. We got lex the little people princess songs palace and the klip klop stable and she LOVES them. Everything makes noise, is super cute, involves princesses, and are just fun. Her favorite thing to do is put all the princesses in the bed and tell everyone else to “shhhhh”. Its super cute and totally perfect for her age!

PUZZLES & STACKERS. We LOVE puzzles around here- whether it’s a shape puzzle or an animal puzzzle we’re huge fans. Another favorite thing? Stackers! We love this double rainbow stacker the most! Lex will sit and stack and dump and stack. Its seriously fabulous and keeps her little hands busy and out of trouble.  We keep all our puzzles and stackers stored in reusable produce bags (like these) for easy clean up and so all of the pieces stay together.

KITCHEN & TEA. Lex has one sweet play kitchen. We’ve stocked it up with super fun & adorable play food, plates, pots & pans, and even a cute little mixer. She loves pretending to cook, wash the dishes, and go through all the food in the fridge & freezer. Another favorite thing- tea parties. We have tea parties with stuffed animals, each other, and the kitty!

CRAFTING. We love a good craft over here. At some point every day we color, draw, stamp, sticker and just create. I’m sure an easel will be in the cards pretty soon. But for now we love these water colors, these markers, crayons, stamps, and stickers (big time love stickers. everyone & everything gets stickers). Its fun to involve lex in wrapping presents too- i have some circle stickers she uses to decorate the packages or she stamps her heart out. Is it the prettiest? nope, but its totally done with love.

Well. I think that pretty much covers our favorite indoor activities! Link up with us to share your fav toys.

julie - Okay, too many cute things going on in this post. First of all, I spy a jellycat book in SPANISH! Jon is requesting that book be sent to us asap. Well, maybe a not so pink version of that book. Second, little people are the best. Third, we need that stacker…because it’s adorable and will probably buy me 10 minutes of peace.

EHayes - Seriously, this is our life…minus the crafting. We don’t craft all that much, but looks likes we should start. Everything else is pretty much exactly our life.

Colleen - I love your play kitchen! Owen wants to come over and cook Lex a meal in it! Hahah. Seriously though, it is hard work keeping a toddler occupied all day, so thank goodness for all these fabulous / brilliant toys, right?!

JEN MOORE - Just wait until she is a little older… She would love the books Pinkalicious, Goldalicious and I think there might be one in purple too. Then you can throw parties based around these books… Like a Goldalicious party!!
