big girl in her big girl bed.

2014-01-10_0002

We’ve officially made the transition to the toddler bed.  I was dreading the day lex would be in her toddler bed- i pictured seeing her little face peeking out over the gate to her room while screaming and yelling for mom and dad. Or having to sit outside her door and keep telling her to get her butt back into that bed. And i’m sure we’ll have plenty of those nights- but so far the transition has been EASY. Yup, you read that right. Super, duper, i can’t really believe it easy.

Mike and I decided to make the transition now because she’s dangerously close to being able to crawl out, she’s in a stellar mood these days (no teething, clinging, etc), and she goes down insanely easy for nighttime and naps (homegirl BEGS for her nap). We didn’t make a big deal about the transition- didn’t even let her see us switching out her crib rail, and she already had her toddler bedding in her crib, so it was a pretty simple thing (bonus that her bed converted and she didnt have to say “bye bye” to her beloved bed!). Obviously she noticed immediately- and loves jumping in and out of bed- BUT when it came time to go down for the first night she went out like a light and didn’t even TRY climbing out. When she woke up in the morning we heard the usual “mommy! mommy! morning mommy!” all from her bed! she didn’t even try climb out! Nap times go the same way.

Clearly it won’t always be this easy. She’ll be a normal toddler and fight bedtime at some point- she’ll discover she can get in and out and read & play all night. And i’m seriously convinced she’s going to sleep in the teepee (i know i would). We’ve baby gated the door to her room because her bedroom is upstairs- and the thought of her having the run of the whole upstairs while we’re watching TV downstairs is seriously scary. At least she’s fully contained in her bedroom! We’ll see what the future holds- but i think we found the perfect time for lex to make the big switch.

I can’t believe how big girl she looks in there.

Sara - Great job Lex!! I would totally be found in the teepee too… but you guys did it perfectly, as always!!

Courtney Patterson - I am dreading the day we transition. M has only started sleeping through the night lately (at 2.5 years – um, hello. what’s that about??) so I must admit that it’s for purely selfish mama reasons that I’m in no rush to do something new right now, lol. Go Lex!! I hope her transition continues to be a smooth one. Have a great week!

Tiffany - That is AWESOME! So glad that it’s going so smoothly. Every kid is different and we weren’t so lucky. Our excellent sleeper now wakes up at least once a night and comes down the hall to our room and we’re about 6 weeks into the shift to a big girl bed. Baby #2 will be sleeping in her crib for as long as she possibly can after these shenanigans!

Jess - So cute!! I am hopeful that our transition will be this easy, but it won’t be happening any time soon, if it’s up to me!! However, we have a monkey instead of a human son, so I would not be surprised if he crawled out of his crib tomorrow.

    Happy Monday!

Emily - This makes me so happy to hear. We haven’t started the transition yet but plan to a few months after baby Claire arrives. She does looks so big in her big girl bed!!! Precious thing! Fingers crossed our transition goes just as smoothly.

Courtney Wilson - Wow. That’s awesome your child is sleeping so well and the transition was that easy. I hope for the same when we reach that milestone. 🙂

Elizabeth - Wow!! Go Lex! That’s so awesome! I’m so dreading the day we have to do this. A baby gate on the door is genius though as Mason’s room is upstairs too. Good job big girl!

Sara McCarty - This is awesome! Way to go Lex! I can’t believe it was that easy. What a big girl! Hey, quick question – when did you guys start using pillows and blankets. We give Mac a blanket now, but he’s also in a sleep sack because he can’t seem to keep it on him. He uses his stuffed animals for a pillow now, so I think he might like one but have no idea when the right time to introduce one would be. Just curious as to what you guys did.

Kristin - This is so amazing! Good job Lex! I’m already stressed about making that switch, this gives me hope that maybe it won’t be as big of a deal as I am fearing.
